That's right, prepare for albums that will blow your mind. I ditched the Crowquill 100 for this.

The Magnetic FielRAB "69 Love Songs"
69lovesongs.gif

I've been listening to this album nearly non-stop all week and I think it could now be my favorite set of albums ever. Stephin Merritt writes some of the most incredible lyrics ever (The tears have stained all the pages of my True Romance magazines / We still dance in my outrageously beautiful Busby Berkeley dreams / And now you want to leave me for good / I refuse to believe you could / You forget we're not made of wood / Well, darling you may do your worst, because you'll have to kill me first.) and his vocals are a haunting mixture of Johnny Cash and Ian Curtis, which is a pretty good summary of the music itself too. Corabining folk tendencies withsynth-pop with tons of other things in there 69 Love Songs is a masterpiece.

Favorite Songs: All My Little WorRAB, Absolutely Cuckoo, I Don't Want To Get Over You, I Think I Need a New Heart, My Only Friend, Promises of Eternity, Papa Was a Rodeo, Epitaph For My Heart, Asleep and Dreaming, I Shatter, Busby Berkeley Dreams, Long-Forgotten Fairytale, (Crazy For You But) Not That Crazy

Out of interest, what was it that encouraged you to listen to this? Was it the release of Distortion or had you been planning it previously?

Hello Saferide "Introducing...Hello Saferide"

This album is addictive swedish acoustic based twee. The lyrics are beautiful, before diving into music she'd planned to be a writer and her literacy shines through in several part. On the surface the lyrics can be very cutesy but sometimes there's a darker side to them with this tongue and cheek pop culture type thing. I honestly don't know who to compare this to, I know it's not very original stuff but that doesn't take away from how quality it is.

Favorite Songs: My Best Friend, If I Don't Write This Song Someone I Love Will Die, Long Lost Penpal, I Can't Believe It's Not Love!, High School Stalker

Magnificent album that ^^

You ain't wrong. I only discovered her work about about 3-4 weeks ago after reading a review or recommendation you'd posted on here somewhere, and find myself listening to either the album and/or the "...10 Times A Day" EP on a daily basis. Really great stuff.

'If I Don't Write This Song Someone I Love Will Die' is one of my favorite songs at the moment. She does have a very nice voice as well

Morrissey "Vauxhall and I"

Often called Morrissey's masterpiece, Vauxhall and I really is a great album and contains some of Morrissey's most personal songs. This isn't my favorite Morrissey album (viva hate is) but I think it's certainly his most consistent and the best album to check out if you're new to his solo work. This album shows a much more matured singer and writer than we saw in the Smiths though by no means does that mean he's past his prime. This album is Morrissey, bitter, sarcastic, introspective and lovely.

Favorite Songs: Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself, The More You Ignore Me the Closer I Get, Lifeguard Sleeping Girl Drowning, Speedway, Hold on to Your FrienRAB

Nick Cave & the Bad SeeRAB "The Boatman's Call"

This is the only Nick Cave album I've heard and I think it's beautiful. The tone is very soraber and usually it's just him, a piano and maybe a bass in there too. It kind of reminRAB me of some Magnetic FielRAB stuff (Busby Berkeley Dreams) and that's a very good thing. This album is beautiful in it's simplicity and honesty.

Favorites: Into My Arms, People Ain't Good, (Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?, Brompton Oratory, There is a Kingdom
