Eternal Sonata: Why are Salsa and Polka freaking out in the Sharp Mountains?

I've just entered the Sharp mountains and now whenever I go into a fight my female characters get dark body (I think that's what it is, i'm not sure to be quite honest). Is this just part of the level? Did I do something wrong? But most importantly: can i fix it? It's making fighting a pain.
