Essential Android App list?

So I put together a group of apps that I think everyone should have or at least checkout. For the most part I went with the apps I just have to tell people know about when I find out they have an android phone. Agree? Disagree? let me know.

13 Must Have Apps - The Essential Android App list! http://bit.ly/czlS9c

Long link for anyone who doesn't like clicking short Urls.

would be nice if the icon and/or barcode linked to the market when clicked.

i'm looking on my phone's browser and there is no way to scan the barcode or get to the app so i can try it

Sure there is... you need the Barcode Scanner app, or one of the better ones that can scan other codes too like ixMAT Scanner. You just run the app, scan the barcode off the screen, press "Open browser" and load into the Browser and then bounce to the Market app where the app will be displayed.

Edit: Ahh... of course not from the phone Browser. My bad.

Edit2: Unless you have two phones... you could scan the barcode on one of them... ?

Twidroid Pro? Why not the standard (free) one? How many people really need multi-account support?

Pandora is brilliant, but only available in the US - what about the rest of the world?

Babbler? Many people (including me) moved from Babbler to Bloo. I haven't used Babbler in a while, so maybe it's better now?

Google Voice - also US only?

I agree with your other apps. They're all good.

What about:

GPS Status to see loads of info about your GPS, and save positions (like where you parked your car) to navigate to later.

Barcode Scanner (or the better ixMAT scanner) to scan QRCodes.

Missed Call for custom notifications (ringtone, led colour/blink rate, vibrate) for SMS, Calls, Calendar, etc, and even specific profiles for specific contacts.

No Signal Alert to tell you when you have no signal, and when it comes back.

Phone Finder for when your phone is lost or stolen, you can text it and it'll text and email you back the co-ordinates with a Google Maps link.

Pure Calendar widget for a brilliant highly customisable Calendar widget replacement.

SIM Checker Lite to email you and text you the phone's location and new phone number whenever a different SIM is put in your phone (such as after it's stolen).

Toggle Settings to toggle/change just about every setting on the phone, set up profiles of groups of these settings for Home, Low Battery, Meeting, Night time, Outdoor, etc, and have them activate automatically under specific conditions or times or manually.

Thanks for the feedback.

I decided to go with the pro versions for a few reasons. 1. to support the developers 2. because I myself use the pro-versions and 3. they have more features. Although I did also mention in those sections that free versions were available of course. Just to give everyone the option.

I put ShopSavvy up in place for our scanner app, it handles Qrcodes as well.
And i feel I may have missed out not including missed call, I use it as well. ; )
I'll check out the other apps you mentioned as well.

i never used shopsavvy and compare everywhere much, but i saw a video not too long ago on google shopper. it make it seem like it was superior to both of them, so i kinda dropped shopsavvy. you might wanna look into it and see how you like it.

and @extorian, last.fm is a pandora alternative. i do believe it is available outside the US. i actually prefer last.fm because it has music in other languages that i listen to (like korean and chinese).

Shopsavvy works pretty well.

Yeah I tried last.fm, I just love the way Pandora picks music.

I just tried Google Shopper (called Shopper in the Market) but it isn't as good as Google Shopper. While it can recognise cover art of stuff, and it has voice search, it only has US prices, only seems to do online stores, and only seems to have information on CDs, DVDs, Books, and games. ShopSavvy recognises anything with a barcode, has other prices, and will give you prices for nearby stores as well as online prices.

Yeah I found that Shopsavvy stood up pretty well against a few similar apps in the market. I have a post here. Google Shopper takes on the competition. http://bit.ly/dmHZ0i

you should try using it before recommending it. the video makes it seem cool, but in reality it is weak compared to shopsavvy. in my experience GS had trouble scanning barcodes and finding items. the same items scanned with shopsavvy showed up quickly.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. Google Shopper has a lot of potential of course just needs some polishing. I had a lot of fun testing Google Shopper, ShopSavvy SnapTell and Barcode Scanner.

Google Shopper takes on its competition!
