Hi,

Anybody out there with advice on dealing with an unusually long period of this virus? I have been ill since end november and just this morning got test relults back from doctor. I tested positive for this virus. Wonder if anybody has any advice to get shot of this once and for all. doctor said rest and warmth will win-out. Oh well.

Lots of love,

Hi,

Thanks for replying. You're right. But the doctor discussed my bloods with me, and my wbc's are normal. I have had this problem for 5months now. She advised me on another blood test in 2weeks. she has put on an extra test for toxoplasmosis. We did get another cat at the same time I became ill. I'm 52 and from what i've read about ebv, it's a younger persons' infection!! I used to work for the HPA, that's your UK equivalent for CDC in atlanta. In order for me to work there I had to have a cocktail of immunisations. Much like the one's that the soldiers serving in the gulf had to have. After 911 it was advised that we take an anthrax immunisation, but i refused. I think my immune system is a bit ropey at the moment. Anyway, take care. Bye.

Hi Sandra,
I have had my EBV symptoms off and on for about 10 years. The last 2 have been the worst. Now, I'm symptomatic for 6-8 weeks at a time with about a 3 month break in between. My family doc says the same thing every time...rest, rest, drink lots of fluids, and rest. Since all I want to do is sleep, this hasn't been a problem unless you consider the fact that I would like to work and have a life! After reading a lot of the postings on here about EBV, I atleast feel less like a hypochondriac. It's not easy telling friends and family that you feel like you have the flu every 3 or 4 months, only it's not the flu, it's EBV. Even my husband says "just rest and you'll feel better and maybe it won't last as long this time". He's my biggest supporter but I'm beginning to think that he just wants me to suck it up and live my life like I don't have EBV. Anyway, rest and especially sleep will help me feel somewhat normal for a few hours after I get up. Some days, I'm sleeping up to 18 hours. Tylenol helps me feel less achy and my low grade fevers will come down to normal as long as I take it every 2 to 3 hours. If you're anything like me, I'm sure you feel a lot of anger and despression over the fact that you're sick and tired of feeling sick and tired! I sympathize with you and wish I could give you more ways to feel somewhat normal. Hang in there and never give up hope!

I have recently read that if you have EB and you have Lyme, you will not rid yourself of either unless you treat both...it seems that one, a virus, and another, a bacteria, like to live with each other.

It is thought that Lyme can be transmitted by fleas...did your second cat come with freeloaders?

PS I've read that in developing countries people get E/B by the time they are 5 yrs old, but in developed countries most get the infection by the time they're teens...but like you, I got E/B later in life.
