Hey Guys
I am new to this site....
I have had back problems for 17 years (i am only 31). 4 herniated discs and I had a laminectomy in '01. from that point i have had very good relied, with the occasional episode.
For last 6 months i have had pretty bad back pain (mostly spasms), but been able to keep it under control with in reason until this weekend.
So i decided to have another epidural.
Let me say I have had them in the past, with good results.
but today I am in tremendous pain after the procedure. Feels like different pain, like right where the injection was. cant walk or stand up with out feeling like i am going to collapse. truthfully cant get comfortable at all. Also, Constantly having to pee even though i havent drank much of anything.
Is this common or does this happen on occasion? Does this go away soon and then i will see if i had any results from the procedure itself. Has anyone else had this issue?

Just a little nervous as I dont remeraber these symptoms from last few epidurals.

Thanks for listening to me...

Happy Holidays to all and may your new year be pain free;)

Did the same doctor do the injection? I assume it was injected under fluoroscopy? Was it the same level or location that you've had injected in the past?

I can't say that I have ever had a similar reaction to what you are describing, but I have had different reactions at different times.

I think I'd give it 24-48 hours to settle a bit, and then call your doctor's office if you are still having the same symptoms.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, the same doctor did it all under flouroscopy. It seems he was wiggling around little bit to make sure he got the medicine in the right spot on the left side...which is where my back felt dead. He kept me updated saying we just have to make sure its in the right spot...need little more dye, etc. So he was at least keeping my updated during...
But i feel much better today and will see how the back responRAB.
Just got nervous because it was a new pain and really couldnt move. But i guess soreness levels after shots can be different for anyone.
Again thanks for your reponse...i will let you know how the back actually responRAB to the medication.

Yes, sometimes we can have very different kinRAB of pain following an epi, but they usually subside within 48 hours. I'm really glad you are feeling better and that you can hopefully enjoy the Holidays more. Please do let us know how it is going.

OH good. I'm glad you're a bit less sore today. Sometimes when they have to move the needle around a bit to get through something to the exact location they want, it can cause a tad of swelling or it is possible he might have passed by a nerve that didn't appreciate being bothered.

I had many injections over the last year when they were trying to decide which level was causing the most symptoms, and I rarely had the same experience twice.

As Carol said, hopefully you'll get a little relief and will be able to enjoy the holidays.

When my son had his first epidural it took over a week to recover from the pain. He was just terrible getting over it. I found out that he had shotting pain down his leg during the procedure so I assume that the doctor hit the nerve with the needle. He just had a second one last week and no problem what so ever. Only bummer is the epidural does nothing for his back pain. Good luck.

Parkerl, when was the last time you had an MRI of your back? Since the symptoms have worsened, it's possible that the original problem has worsened or that a new problem has developed. I think that if it has been more than 6-8 months since you had any scans, it would be wise to do so in order that the proper procedure be done.Pain management is great, but sometimes in masking the pain we are also masking problems that need to be addressed.

Glad to know that the pain of the epi is better and I hope you have a great Xmas.

Carol
