Any drug that is abused has its side effects and dangers. Ephedrine recently has been in the news causing cardiac valve problems if I recall. I suggest you confront your mom with information about the drug and its long term effects. Maybe educating her on the dangers it can cause will make her realize that she has a problem and will seek help. Like any drug like this, she should seek medical help from a professional practitioner and she should not abruptly stop taking the drug and should taper down off of it. I hope that helps a little.
