Entire leg swollen, but no blood clots

Hi,

I hope this is the appropriate forum - I saw "foot" and "knee" sections, but nothing that matched my concern.

Basically, my left leg started feeling kind of funny 2 weeks ago. I've been studying a lot everyday and not moving from my chair - the feeling started as a dull ache (sort of like a pulled muscle, but not really) right at the part of my hamstring where the edge of the chair is when I sit down. A few days later the feeling expanded down my leg to the back of my knee and upper calf area, and a few days after that it again expanded to include my ankle/heel region.

It FEELS like a circulation issue - and my left leg has a bit of a tendency to fall asleep before my right leg, if I'm ever in the position where they fall asleep. I got scared because my mom had a blood clot in her ankle last year. I also fly frequently, and am supposed to fly to the Middle East on Dec 9 and then back to the US from there 2 weeks later. I also made the trip in September, and I've been traveling between the 2 regions for the past 6 or 7 years, probably about every 6 months.

I went in for an ultrasound this morning, and they did not find any blood clots. BUT, my doctor said that my entire left leg appeared to be swollen. For the past two weeks it has not looked swollen, or red, or tender to the touch, but it just feels weird (combination of the dull ache from the hamstring to the upper calf to the heel/ankle, plus a bit of tingliness).

Any suggestions as to what I should do? I'm going to see an internal medicine specialist on Friday, but til then?

Wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar experience.

Thanks

could be something with a nerve, or if it really is swollen maybe there is an issue with the lymph node system in your leg preventing it from draining fluid fully. That pressure of added fluid could cause it to feel funny. Good news is the worst possibility would be the blood clot and they ruled that out. I don't know if it would be worth it since you are seeing the doctor tomorrow, but maybe get a pair of those support hose/socks for your legs to see if that helps.
