Rosemund
Once upon a time there lived a woman whom was the fairest in the kingdom her beauty could only be matched by her grace. Legend has it that when she was born a single rose bloomed outside her window in the bitter winter snow and her parents thought it was only fitting to name her Rosemund. Her mother passed away when she was very young leaving her father to die of a broken heart a year later. Little Rosemund was then left in the care of her distant relative the newly self-appointed king, Aldrich. Although he was born of noble birth he was not in line for the throne and there was only one way to legitimize his throne. This meant that royal marriage would have to take place and he intended to marry Rosemund unbeknown. Rosemund being so fair and attractive in appearance had many suitors from many lands, all whom where noble. Knowing about these suitors Aldrich came up with a plan that would keep these suitors away from her and her beauty. He sent her a message which explained that in order to keep her chasteness he must hide and lock her up in the tower. One winter morning Cadan, the baron of Cornwall who is very noble, was riding his horse by the castle he heard a beautiful voice, and soon realized it was Rosemund singing from her tower. He fell in love with her instantly whilst they both gazed at one another. He sends a messenger to ask for the king’s permission to marry Rosemund. The king told him, “In order to prove you are worthy you must fight in the battle and then you may come back to me and I’ll give you my answer.” Cadan loved Rosemund and in order to be wed to her he had to go fight for the kingdom. He decided he must go, so he went off to fight. Two more winters past without a sign of Cadan which meant he hadn’t come back from the battles. Rosemund was distraught and her heart felt pain and was wounded. On the third winter she awoke to see a single rose and her beloved Cadan accompanying it. He climbed up to the tower and told her that he was back again proposing to her and get the permission from Aldrich. He then went off to ask Aldrich for permission and was told, “No, you may not marry her because you aren’t worthy, I’m the only man whom is worthy to marry Rosemund.” Cadan wasn’t exactly happy about it but he wasn’t going to give up. He and the king decided to ask Rosemund who she thought was the worthiest to be her husband, and they called out from the bottom of the tower. She replied “Cadan is the only man I would marry I’m in love with him and always will be.” Aldrich was horrified and filled with ire, so he started climbing up to the window of the tower, in desperation to kill her. He had nearly climbed to the top when he slipped and trying to hold on he fell. The Rose which no one knew had starting growing again was blooming and that is the rose in which Aldrich fell upon and stabbed him through his heart. Cadan was so happy that he climbed up the tower and retrieved Rosemund and they ran away together and lived happily ever after.Ever since a single rose has blossomed once a year outside the tower, reminding the people of the story of Rosemund.
