how do images influence the way we think about the world?

im hoping to use an image on refugees and protests, and maybe the film "one night in bhopal" or "slumdog millionaire" or "lord of war" if you know these texts.

but im just asking in general how visual texts work to shape our thoughts of the WORLD, or how one has shaped your thoughts.
thanx

Here's an infinite logic loop that will blow your mind:

Marcus Aurelias once wrote: No form of Nature is inferior to Art; for the arts merely imitate natural forms.

Therefore any art that propagates a certain perception or way of thinking is really just forcing us to analyze things as they are. Painters such as Dali and Picasso, however, made it a point to distort and reimagine contemporary artistic perception of the world.

I'm not sure if that helps your cause, but I always like bringing that point up when discussing art and perceptions.

It affects us socially. You can also use images in magazines. Many people who are IN magazines are beautiful, skinny models, who look absolutely perfect. Someone who has a small waste, perfect teeth, nice booty, etc. and someone like a teenager would look at those images and say, "this is what i have to become. cause this is what the world defines as PERFECT". and in most cases, its a photoshop image. Thats just my 2 cents. may be wrong though :P
