england ftw!*

You're right...the commentators last night and most people i've spoken to thought it was for the push, because the ref didn't react at all until then.
rooney did deserve a red for the stamp, but not for the push - seeing as he did both he definitely deserved to go.

But it was cristiano Ronaldo's fault!

He will never earn another ? in the UK

Get a life @ the Talk sport commentators I hate them all with a passion. Bias commentary to the extreme!

Cristiano ronaldo has already been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Where he will go become fat and rubbish But seriously IMO Cristiano Ronaldo is more important to the man u team the ROOOONEY

rooney is one of the best players in the world. if Shevchenko was worth 30m at the age of 30, how much is Rooney worth when he's just over 20?

Yes he scored so many goals and played so well in this world cup

He has a temper and he needs to control it. He is too young to be one of the great and if he lets his temper get carried away in important matches like this he will just be another player.

Rooney is good....but not that good IMO. Shevchenko was the sole reason that Ukraine got as far as they did in the WC. What did Rooney add to the England world cup campaign apart from headlines about his damn foot!

In the end Englands downfall lie for the most part with the manager. 1 striker that isn't fully fit ever that is really going to work in the world cup!

Rooney scored a hat trick on his champs league debut - something that Nistlerooy, one of highest scoring prem strikers in the recent prem - never managed. he's already one of the greats, and has the potential to be even more.

don't use the arguement that he 'sucked in the world cup'. Lampard and gerrard didn't play well either, and they suck too right?
rooney wasn't even supposed to play in this WC, he broke his foot just a month before in a prem match. i doubt there are any other players who have been injured that close to a tournament, recovered, and with very limited training came on and lifted the team in the way that Rooney did vs T+T.

oh, and rooney transfered for a total of 29m.

zOMG t+t a quality side like that. Apologies he is a god

So you are telling me that just because he scored a hat-trick in his first premier league match he is the greatest player of all time. And I WILL use the he' sucked in the WC' argument. Because he did. He has been hyped up to be the best thing that ever happened to England. This is when it mattered, he was playing for his country, for his pride and not only did he not score he also got sent off in the quarter final!

How can England constantly leg hump this guy?

Like I said the formation of the team was wrong. THe whole team didn't perform. Gerrard in my opinion played pretty well. He is a great player. Rooney gets all the headlines and the glory. But IMO Gerrard is the real star of the England team.

Truth be told is that Man u have performed pretty badly as a whole in recent times. So where is the Rooney god now? I mean when was the last time Man U actually won the premier league. Didn't Man u also get knocked out at the group stages of the champions league this year?? So where is the great Rooney's magic now?

WHy don't you find me a quote where I said that Rooney was shit?

I'll find you a quote of me saying that instead.

All I'm saying is the guy is over-rated. England's formation was all wrong IMO. It was the manager's fault more than the players.

Ronaldinho plays a different position to Rooney so it really isn't a good comparison!

Not scoring does equal not playing well for a striker! Esepcially when you are the only striker in the team!!

@ hargreaves

We can agree to disagree on Rooney being as good as anyone in the world when he's on his game though.

Gerrard is the star of the english team just now IMO. He put 110% into every game whether it be for Liverpool or for England. I'd be pretty surprised if he isn't the next England captain

Zidane was a god in the Brazil game though. He reduced Ronaldinho to an apprentice It was a joy to watch.
