Engine replacement options for a 2006 Mazda Speed6?

I have a 2006 Mazda Speed6 that recently threw a rod out the top of the engine. What are my options for a replacement engine other than from a Speed6? Will a 2.3 from a Mazda 6, Mazda 3, CR 7, etc work?
