Engine problems in my Mazda?

I have a 1998 Mazda 626 6 cylinder. Last week my motor started knocking. When you start the car is when you first hear it and at low speeds. Do I have an engine problem or could it be something else. I talked to 2 mechanics. The 1st mechanic said I am going to need a new motor just by listening to it. The 2nd mechanic said it is internal and not to put any more money in the car. he said eventually the motor will lock up and die. He said for now I can drive it but I have to go easy on it. If I rev it up that will lock the motor up and it will be finished for good. He also just briefly looked at the engine. He said now is a good time to sell it if I want to sell. Mechanic number 2 said these cars are famous for this type of problem. Funny thing was he said he had a car that did the same thing and he drove it for 2 years. Any feedback would be be great Thanks!
