Alright so I am currently engaged to my boyfriend of 4 years, we're planning on getting married sometime next summer.. my problem is that I am thinking of keeping my last name when we get married. The only people left in my family with my last name are all girls, and I love my name and I would like to carry it on with my children, even if their surnames would be hyphenated. I expressed this to my fiancée and he took it as a HUGE insult to his manhood, and I talked about with his mom and she would be okay with it if it was what I really wanted, and plus she has 2 other sons whom are both either married or in a long term relationship. I wouldn't mind taking my his last name, but this was just something i was seriously thinking about. And plus the hyphenated last names would be difficult for our children and just choosing one of ours for them wouldn't work for either of us.
What should I do? Is this a dumb idea, should I just take his and worrying about it?
whoa there heyhey, he's really a wonderful guy, he's not all controlling and dominant in the least bit way. I mean I can kind of see where he's coming from.. but I guess I'll think it over some more and make a decision with him later. We still have time.
