I wanted to start a new thread about endoscopies so anyone about to have one wouldn't have to start with "Terrified of Endoscopies."
(I want to say tho' that this was an excellent thread!
I find it interesting that many of you sharing your endoscopy experiences were awake and aware during the procedure. Now, I have had a laryngoscope procedure done with nothing other than light nasal nurabing and it was fine, but I'm pretty impressed that you folks could be awake and not freaked out during an EGD!
If you're checking in here because you're about to have an endoscopy, be aware that different doctors use different forms of sedation, so you might want to find out what to expect in your case. I just had an EGD done yesterday and was given propofol. I don't remeraber a thing beyond counting backwarRAB from 100. I made it to 99. LOL The next thing I knew I was waking up about 20 minutes later and felt completely back-to-normal about 5 minutes after that. No nausea; no anything. If/when I need another EGD, this is how I want to have it done. It was one of the easiest, least uncomfortable medical procedures I have ever had. Nothing to be afraid of!
