I had my EGD yesterday. My GI said my esophogus looked fine - for that I am thankful - but I have a bit of gastritis. He did a biopsy, but I don't have the results yet. He mainly said to stay on my medications.

Well, I looked up gastritis, and none of the causes fit me. So would you believe that the GERD is also causing the gastritis?

Anyone else here have gastritis? I'm a bit upset with the GI to begin with since he told me this when I was still in a fog. I don't even remeraber saying much to him. I'm supposed to go back in 3 months.

I'm thinking about calling his office Monday am to see if I can get a better explanation or even make an appointment just to talk to him about the results. It really aggrevates me that I pay all this money for a doctor, and he can't take five or more minutes until I'm a bit more clear minded to tell me what he found.

Thanks in advance to all who respond.

Yes, I have chronic gastritis, the doctor really didnt have an explanation other than being on anti-inflammatories for a long time. I was also diagnosed with Barretts even though he said my esophagus looked fine. I guess the gastritis caused a lot of the acid reflux which I must have had for a long time. I'm only 27, so this is s scary diagnosis for me.

I was also told I had a "bit of gastritis" after my endoscopy. My GI didn't seem to indicate that it was anything to worry about. I did see him for a follow up appointment in his office after the three tests. He told me that as my endoscopy was "fine" and the manometry was "fine" and the 24 pH test was "fine" that I could stop taking the Nexium, or only take it when needed. He said he didn't see any acid damage. He basically sent me on my way. I, however, insisted on a follow up appointment in the future so I will see him again in 5 months. My main symptom is a chronic sore throat. I had the traditional heartburn symptoms at the beginning of this journey, for about the first 3 months, but don't have those anymore. For the last 8 months or so I've had the throat issues. I have also seen a ENT, who believes the throat issues are coming from my stomach. But I'm really no further along, other than knowing it is nothing too serious, and I hope to keep it that way. But like you, I did not get an explanation for the bit of gastritis.
