Look at all the arms manufacturers, drug lords, and drug enforcement officers. They have families with children too. They would all go out of business....please think of the children!!!!

If the amount of money spent and the numbers of people using cocaine now is this high when people are taking a known risk of possible felony prosecution, there is little doubt the numbers will at least double, when that risk is removed.

Millions of people will try it just because it's legal and they can sample the effects. That means many more people will destroy their lives needlessly, because the following statistic is an absolute certainty and is a very conservative estimate IMO.

Why the hell not?

"The war on drugs is a complete failure."- Ron Paul

(posted in chronicle blog by Scott Morgan if you're interested):

Last week, the Associate Press ran one of the best peices on U.S. drug policy I've ever seen, and it began like this:MEXICO CITY (AP)

War on drugs is a failure. End it, save the money. People will do them if they want.

War on poverty is a failure. End it, save the money. People will always be poor, if you try to make everyone the same you end up only making everyone poor.

War on racism is a failure. End it, save the money. People will associate and discriminate with/against people they want to.

War on fat is a failure. End it, save the money. People will eat what they want.

I don't support leglaization of pot or any drugs, and nearly twice as many Americans don't agree with legalization of marijuana either as compared to how many favor it.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/19561/who-supports-marijuana-legalization.aspx

None of this says anything about the effects of criminalization on cocaine use. Hell, if anything, the continually rising usage is evidence that criminalization does fuck-all.

Bo you stupid.

And you think you're a libertarian. Neoconservatism stupidity at its finest. Do you jack off to a portrait of Nancy Reagan every night?

I feel I'm somewhat of a libertarian. What is wrong with what he said from a libertarian standpoint?

He seems to be refusing to see the obvious facts. It's actually pretty amusing to see someone as close minded as he is. He has no proof for his position, yet refuses to see proof that his position is wrong.

But he likes his form of unsupported fear mongering.

It is a valid argument and one of many.

Making drugs like cocaine, heroin, and meth legal will send a message to children that they are not dangerous, and that makes no sense at all.

Do you actually expect people to believe I said that? You are insulting their intelligence and greatly lowering your credibility.

Everyone knows children get a hold of legal prescription drugs from the medicine cabinet. Legalization will mean far more drugs in the home and far less reason to keep them hidden, giving far greater access of them to children.

This was your idea not mine. Here is what I said:

It's not politically viable because the people that really matter know that legalization of drugs will mean millions of additional addicts will come with it.

It's hilarious when people pretend like this that they aren't getting their asses kicked.

Yep, you're right. We've done this a few times recently though...so good luck arguing with QuickHitCurepon - he's the only one stupid enough to keep arguing and arguing with you even after his opinion has been thoroughly torn to shreds.

Ending the war on drugs and fat = freeing the people to do what they want.

In line with libertarian values.

Ending the war on racism and poverty = forcing a group to do things and deal with things they dont want.

In line with moronic, fascist values.

Everyone knows it doesn't work, so why does it continue?

WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK???

So you feel it's in keeping with libertarian values to have the government force me to associate with people I may not wish to? Equally, you feel it's in keeping with libertarian values to have the government force me at gunpoint to turn over a share of my income in order to give it to someone else?

That's why we need reform of drug laws, and that has been happening with thousands of Drug Courts in the U.S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_court

These are all very worthy elements of a War on Drugs that should without a doubt be continued.

With legalization of drugs, very few people will seek treatment on their own.

Also, drug law reforms should continue, but how often is this discussed here at DIAC? Not much.
