Enchanced version of 3120 = 4120

Double the nvram means it won't need o download the guide information when it is brought up like the 3100 does. It's downloads guide data on a schedule similar to the way the 3200 does.

This is my second big news within 3 days.

BELL is launching a enchanced version of 3100, called the 4100

The improvements are

- Dolby Digital Optical output + s-video connection
- UHF remote control (though not to sure if its UHF pro)
- Havent confirmed this, but it looks like a cardless model (but have to confirm that)
- On a personal note, it looks a bit bulky than the slim 3100.

Will post more info as we go along

Crappy plastic box is almost like saying something nice about it.Whats the hole in the back of suppose to be?

I already have one... It looks similar in size to the Dish 111 with some modifications. The 3100 already has s-video. It is cardless... as all new models will be.

Same interface as 5900 or 6100.

This is not a replacement for the 3100. The 3100 will be replaced by the 3101 (not final model #). This unit will be similar to the 4700. It will compare to the Starchoice DSR315. This is part of a plan for Bell Expressvu to deliver hardware on all fronts (more options than any of their competitors).

You talk into this hole for bell customer support when you got no TV. This is a very advanced upgrade over the 3100 :p

the 4100 officially launches today, but from the pics i saw of it, it looks "cheap"...it is smaller in area, but thicker than the 3100.

I think it's so the CSR's hand can actually come out of the hole and grab your wallet for the upsell at the end of the call. :p

According to what we can see from the Dish Network site, the 111 only has coax outputs. Is this the case with the Bell version?

I ask because Vuuser said it will have S-video as well as DD outputs.

Dish Network 111

the back of the 4100 looks a lot better than the 111...i have seen a pic of it on an internal training sheet, and it certainly doesn't look like that embarassment of a receiver DishNetwork is dumping on their customers.

Falcon: Is there that much SD programming on Bev that has DD 5.1 that a 4100 would be worthwhile?

If not, I would get the 3200.

Thanks for your help.

Greg

It is a modified Dish 111. It is not exactly the same. Only the shell (minus the dish network logo on the top) is the same. This model was developed by E* exclusively for Bev. I believe the reason for this is related to Dish Network's plan on switching to mpeg4 hardware. Don't quote me on that because I'm not exactly sure why Dish Network does not have it (that's only what I heard).

Here is a brief description of the 4100.
The chassis is the exact same size as the Dish Network 111.
The front of it looks the same with the exception of the bev logo and the power and channel buttons are silver (same silver buttons the model 3200 has). The top of mine has a circular grate for heat dissipation with the Dish Network logo. From the photos of the final unit it appears the same but they may have changed it to the bev logo. The back looks different from the previous photos. It has the following: power cord, coax, composite, s-video and optical Dolby digital outputs. The remote looks exactly like this one except it has the bev logo on it.
