Empty Holster Protest?? Texas Concealed Carry on Campus Debate!!?

I'm 18 and I currently attend a community college in Texas. I was wondering if it is illegal for me to join the empty holster protest. For those of you not familar with it, basically students are wearing an empty holster for their firearm or a firearm in general to signify that they are unarmed and defenseless. Open carry isn't legal in Texas and I was wondering if an exposed holster would get me into trouble even if their wasnt a gun in it because it could create fear like how an airsoft gun can be classified as a weapon if it appears to be used as one in a crime. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but tell me what you think and should I wear my blackhawk holster on my hip or wait to my shoulder rig comes in and stop wearing a jacket (ie: a jacket could create confusion because someone might assume I have a gun if they looked at the wrong angle.
empty holster on a college campus...

Also do you like my shoulder rig idea or stick to the hip holster then maybe transition naturally?
