Emprie Total War freaks out on Windows 7?

So I have Windows 7 RC as my OS, and when I boot up Empire Total War, it starts fine, I start a campaign, it loads, and then it freaks out, gets all twitchy, switches between the load screen and the game, colors get distorted, and it just looks really weird. I can't control any of it either. Sometimes their is the classic "there's something wrong" buzzing noise from the game. So, how can I fix this?
 
although windows 7 is a test OS it is very stable and plays many current games just fine. the problem is most likely with your system, it might not be able to handle the load of the os and the game once it gets completely underway
