I have joined the UK-based offices of my employer since 1.1.2008. My employment contract is with their UK office and mentions car allowance.
However, I just noticed that the amount was not being paid to me. (I know I have been a foolish person). When I brought this to the attention of my employer, they said that the amount was not paid as I had not submitted certain Car-related documents.
I have now completed the formalities and been assured that the amount will start coming from next payroll.
My company, being headquartered in India, follows a financial year from 1st April to 31st March. They claim they can't pay this amount for the period from 1.1.2008 to 31.3.2009 as the books for previous financial years are closed. i.e they can only pay for the period from THIS financial year.
However, since this amount is clearly speficied in my employment contract, can I press my employer for payment for the entire period since joining the company? What are my rights?
