I have recently read Emma Manga and watched the Anime Series that is based on the books. I enjoyed the story so much! Emma is such an enspiring and interesting character to follow. She overcome many heartaches to be with the one she loves!
I was confused why William had to propose to Elenor when he did not love her, but loved Emma instead?
Although the story was a bit predictable, the anime series was a little different from the books?
Is that always like that with anime that is based on Manga?
Also many manga romance novels feature the same or very similar stories to each other, why do they do that?
What are your thoughts on this? How about the genre in general?

I'm sorry if this topic was covered elsewhere.

Well, you must understand the importance of class in that era. Marrying someone in a station below yours was out of the question.
Anime and manga diverge a lot most of the time. It has been rare for a manga series to be completely adapted (Dragon Ball and Fushigi Yugi). Other adaptations either stopped midway (Inu-Yasha, Kare Kano, Rurouni Kenshin) or decided to make their own endings (Trigun, the 1st Fullmetal Alchemist adaptation).
I must say Emma belongs in-between. The adaptation covered the material and added some like more attention to Hans the Butler and a new ending:
I thought the manga ended rather anti-climatically. What will William and Emma get in their first date? And what about Viscount Campbell?
