EMG showed ulnar nerve is pinched/anyone have this problem

my neck, shoulder, elbow and hand hurt. my pinky finger is the worst. it is starting to curl down.

has anyone had there ulnar nerve pinched in the neck area. did you have surgery or rehab. i heard it can be very disabling bery quick if not taken care of.

As I statedin a previous ppost about pinched nerves, it is something that neeRAB to be taken care of as soon as possible with conservative means if possible or what ever means found to be effective, i wnt to a chiro. for to long after a WC injury and wasted time and now have permenant damage to the S1 nerve, so becareful.

I am also on W/c and we are at the mercy of the great and mighty w/c adjusters. They don't care how long a nerve is pinched off. They just hope you go away. and if in the mean time you receive permanant nerve damage thats just the chance you take because you got hurt doing your job. I just hope that my lawyer can get something approved before it's to late.

I had this problem and it took a couple of years to finally figure out that it was in my neck. My hanRAB lost a great deal of muscle mass and strength and found it very difficult to do simple tasks. I ended up having a fusion done on August 15 and gained feeling back immediately. I still have some pain from the surgery but my arms and hanRAB are gaining strength and I can turn my head without pain. Best thing I did! Talk to your doctor about other methoRAB before undergoing surgery. I tried traction but it didn't work.

My husband had 2 surgeries on his ulnar nerve...It is definitely something that neeRAB to be taken care of ASAP....The first surgery was not not successful, then he found a brilliant Dr that did the 2nd surgery & he is having signs that this one is working...His was pinched in his elbow, not his neck. Do not let anyone tell you to try Physical Therapy or anything like that....From what we found, it requires surgery & it is a very slow recovery as far as getting feeling back in the hand & fingers (Can take up to 14 months). If you do not get it taken care of, the nerve can die, if that happens it is not reversible. If you are in the Houston area, I will be glad to give you the name of his doctor. We had never heard of this before & I can understand your frustration, it is weird!! Best of luck!
 
the pain in my hand and wrist is terrible. i couldn't believe that much pain could be involved. my neck and shoulder are sore but nothing like my hand, wrist and pinky finger.

swelling in my knuckles is bad as well.
 
Jason i had that about 12 years ago, it was due to a whiplash i had years before.I havent had a problem with it since. I saw a neuro surgeon and he told me in 6 to 8 weeks it would go away and it did.I was getting shots of demeral at the hospital just so i could sleep for 4 hrs every 2 days.i know how much that hurts.Just hang in there you might be like me and never get it again.i wore a neck brace 24/7 untill it went away.
 
That's why it is sometimes hard to detect where the cause of the problem is. I had carpal tunnel surgeries in both wrists because of the pain. It wasn't until I began feeling "shocks" in my neck everytime I turned my head a couple of years later. My arm pain used to keep me up at night so I can sympathize with you.

Are you seeing a hand surgeon or a spine surgeon? Where did the EMG say the nerve was being pinched? if it is in the neck, you should consult with a spine specialist. If it is being pinched in the elbow or hand you should see a hand surgeon. The emg should tell you where it is being pinched.

I have had two surgeries for cubital tunnel syndrome (aka ulnar nerve is pinched in the elbow). The symptoms and severity varies greatly from person to person. Many people can go years without it progressing.Some need surgery right away. i was one of those. I went from mild to severe in just 4 weeks--literally unheard of). Surgery did help remarkably. I recovered faster than anyone dreamed.

A chiropractor will not be able to fix a pinched nerve--no matter what anyone says. In fact, if it is being pinched in the neck, they could make it worse.

Best advice, look at your emg--see where it was being pinched and then consult with either a hand surgeon (make sure he is an orthopedist, not a plastic surgeon) or a spine specialist. I know first hand how quickly these things progress. Once their is atrophy, not much can be done--even surgically. So don't waste time at a chiropractor especially if there is atrophy.
 
I would try a chiropractor before undergoing surgery.....sometimes they can help a pinched nerve
 
I had cubital tunnel syndrome times two (both arms. Cubital tunnel is the ulnar nerve pinched in the elbow. Don't let anyone tell you to see a Chiropractor first--especially if it is pinched in the neck. The chiro could actually make things worse. If it is pinched in the neck, you should see a spine surgeon. If it is pinched in the elbow or wrist, see a hand surgeon (but make sure he is an orthopedist, not a plastc surgeon). With ulnar neuropathies, many people can go years without symptoms progressing. Some require surgery right away. It is an individual thing. I required it right away. Thankfully, I had a great surgeon who recognized the symptoms despite its rapid onset (mine went from mild to severe in just 6 weeks). I recovered rapidly from the surgeries, but I was fortunatdon't waste time at a chiro, who could make things worse. and no, they can not do anything about a pinched nerve. The more time you spend with the chiro means the possibility of irreversble nerve damage. Once muscles atrophy in the hand, they don't come back (hand muscles are different in this regard.
 
I don't know if you noticed, but you are responding to a post that was originally written in 2005. The poster may or may not still be on the board....
