do acid reflux meRAB cause grayish stools?

I just recently started taking Zantac 150 and Omeprazole. I also altered my diet drastically. I had such heartburn, etc., I was hardly eating or drinking and when I did, it was no fat, no meat, no sugar, very little water. I lost 6 lbs in a week.

Now, I'm feeling better, eating better, but I have had grayish stools. I'm not sure how long, as I have been a little constipated, but it's probably been a week or more. Initially, I didn't think anything about it because of the drastic diet changes but now I wonder if it's something to worry about? or is it a side effect of the meRAB?

I will call my Dr in the morning, but was hunting for a possible answer in the meantime. TIA, lori

It is possible that your symptoms are not heartburn and are related to something else such as gallstones.
Your symptoms may be responding to the diet change rather than the medications.
You should get this checked out.

I agree it most likely a side effect. I wouldn't worry overmuch unless your stools were black and tarry which would indicate bleeding in the stomach.

Well, I called the ENT and he said it probably wasn't anything to worry about.?? Said he never had anything like that happen.
HOWever, when I told him that from one website on side effects, it stated to call your Dr immediately about clay colored stools, he took me off Zantac. Again....????

I called my GP, who tells me to call my ENT about anything he has done or prescribed, but I had specifically had my blood work done for my liver not even a month ago. I asked if everything was ok or could there have been an error with the report. He told me no, it was good and to stop the Zantac as well. Basically, I just need to see if the issue resolves itself.

Always lovely when you don't get any clear answers. :dizzy:

Sadly, I had been feeling really good on my meRAB and felt that I might not be crazy about my new digestive life, but I could live with it.

Whether it was the 14 hour fast for the Upper GI, or just the aggravation of calling drs and getting voice messages, and then waiting for return calls, I know by the end of the day I felt like crap and still do. :(
