Email on android phone full of spam?

The email box on my phone has at least 20 messages a day about job offers or enlargement pills.

When I synch email on my iPad these messages are not there. When I open my email in an Internet browser they are not there. How are they getting on my phone?

Is there some kind of virus on my phone?

Please help all you smart tech gods!!!!!
