My husband has had elevated white blood cell counts for the past 5 months...they started out at around 11,000 and have since climbed to 15,000. Our family doctor called this evening and said that they are referring him to a hematologist so that they can get a better understanding as to what is going on. He's been sick once or twice since they first initially discovered that his levels were elevated, and since they were only a little elevated, being 11,000, they just told him to come back in a month to retest his cell count. He's retested 3 times now and each time it comes back even higher. I'm so worried that this could be more than allergies, as our doctor had once mentioned that it could be. He says that he feels fine, other than being tired from working so much...very stressful job. I guess i'm just looking for some explanations or some words of encouragement. He's only 28 and is pretty healthy, other than high blood pressure.
