there free camps for kids? My nephew has been elected into a scholars program at a reputable university. He is 9yrs old and received a invitation to participate in a summer program at Wake Forest University. The program is an honor to him and with his interest in becoming successful. He's curiosity has driven his intelligence, but as his wal-mart shirt states "Its lonely at the top", i joke around with him as most kids are less mature or entertain a silliness that doesn't entertain him. This program is offering one week for nearly two thousand dollars, which is suppose to be raised by parents. The program does not provide a tax benefit for those who donate while they insist on raising money from local business sponsors or fundraising efforts around the community. Haven't they seen the economic struggles of the last years and coming from poverty how would he be able to participate. My question is... Are there free programs for children and where would i go to find this info. I live in NC and thought the state or city government has grants, scholarships, or programs similar to this one. Where do I look? Please give some assistance to me and my family. I am currently contacting some local officials and a few churches, but I would love to hear any stories or suggestions from the rest of the world.
it's different in our neck of the woods. A kid can get lost, especially in poverty-stricken areas where kids are influenced by the environment. I am the child's Uncle, whereas the family is very small as well as came from no finances. From all kinds of troubles, I am trying to lead my family in the right direction as much as I can. I know from being in my nephew's shoes as a youngin', with limited role models and a battle to build class is difficult in this position. I don't know how many people think it's easy being in low economic communities and how some judge as lack of understanding. Opportunities are not abundant and that's why I'm hear trying to let my nephew see other smart children on his level. He usually sits at home playing a Nintendo DS and reading in his spare time, but I see the emptiness or the potential to enhance his life. School is the best thing going for him and drives his curiosity. Who can help, seriously.
