Is there any equivalent component to a ac transformer in DC circuits.

to increase voltage.
Not quite a transistor but thanks. I don't have the power to begin with i need to bump up voltage for a solenoid.
A capacitor that releases into a solenoid.
 
A transistor is what you seek. Amplifying transistor. Take the specs of your circuit to your local electronics supply store. You might even take a look at the amplifying integrated circuit chips available. Their cheap and can often make your whole project more advanced.
