A year ago I got a squier strat pack and a used Boss DS-1 distortion pedal. For a long time, everything worked fine. Then one day, I couldn't play anymore as long as I was going through the pedal - it worked fine if I connected the guitar straight to the amp. I tried buying a new AC adaptor but that didn't help so I just assumed the pedal needed replacing.
Well I recently purchased two brand new pedals: a Boss TR-2 Tremolo and Boss DD-3 Delay and I'm having the exact same issue - the guitar doesn't play through the amp as long as I'm going through a pedal. The light on the pedals go on when I plug them in (in fact, the used distortion pedal's light goes on), but alas nothing. I tried buying new cables - Monster standard 100's, but still I get nothing.
I have even tried using a different amp then the one that came with the strat, but I have the same issue. At this point, I think I've ruled out each possible variable (amp, cable, pedal, power source, guitar) since they all seem to work in some combination, just not all together.
*I should note that when I plug everything in, while I don't hear anything if I try playing the guitar, I do get a very loud hum from the amps that I didn't used to get. I don't get this hum when I just use the guitar. I've tried moving the amps away from electronics that might cause interference and buying longer cables (i'm using two 12' Monster cables), but the hum is still there if I go through the pedals.
So what could be my problem? Any help would be vastly appreciated.
The new pedals come with new batteries in them so that shouldn't be an issue.
