I have been running Oblivion on my computer smoothly for about a year now. A few weeks ago, I started seeing "hiccups", where the game will freeze for about 1-2 seconds and then resume normally. These occur when:
1. Any enemy first notices my presence (such as when sneaking and become noticed).
2. I attack any character. It only happens when landing the FIRST and KILLING strike, all other attacks happen smoothly. It happens regardless of whether I attack with melee, marksman, or magic.
I have about 20 mods running, but I haven't changed them at all and they have been working smoothly together for about a year. I tried reinstalling the game with no mods at all and I am still seeing the same issue. I have rebooted the computer before and after uninstalling and after reinstalling the game, but the issue is still there. I don't think the issue is in my hardware, I have an Intel Core i7-920 processor, Geforce GTX 260 graphics, and 8 Gb of RAM. The game usually runs at a solid 60 fps.
