Edward Cullen's pre-vampire life?

Okay so I'm wanting to write a fanfic about Edward before Carlisle changed him. I must confess it's been a long time since I read the books. I need any little tidbits you can remember about his life before becoming a vampire. Family, interests...anything that the book might offer. I can make up the rest 
. All I remember is Edward Masen was born in 1901 and was dying of Spanish influenza in 1918 when Carlisle saved him at his mother's request. Thanks!

His mother was Elizabeth Mason and they lived in Chicago. I read this really good one about Edward being a ghost and Bella bought his house and they tried to figure out why he didn't pass on to the afterlife and its really cute. Their first idea was that he wasn't supposed to die because he was supposed to go to war (WW1) and he wanted it SO much so Bella went back in time (apparently ghosts can do that) to make him lie about his age and go to war so he wouldn't be in Chicago when the influenza hits and it was SO cute and I loved it. I think you should do something about the war or something.
