I would like to go into the publishing industry as a book editor, possibly of young adult fiction. I'm currently a freshman in college majoring in English. I've been told that I need two to three years of internship experience to get a starting job in the field, which led me to wonder what other educational and work experiences would be required or useful for what I want to do. Does anyone with knowledge of the publishing industry have any advice as to what educational moves I should take to become a book editor? For instance, is a major in English right for the job and is there a recommended minor? Other advice to get into the field would also be nice.
