Mel Gibson:eek::mad:

The 1985 BBC mini-series starring Bob Peck was possibly the best bit of TV from the 1980's. Seriously gritty with dark humour and a bleak view of the 'modern, nuclear world', it also had a fantastic sound track by Eric Clapton.

And now the Yanks are going to butcher it! It's being totally re-written to suit a contemporary US setting. How's that going to work when the main antagonist was a mega-rich US businessman hell bent on nuclear domination of the planet? Who wants to bet the new bad guy suddenly will be Iranian (or possibly even British)? Why can't they just leave the classics alone?

Yea, I read this and shook my head too. They just can't help themselves.

The original is a classic must-see. I've now placed it on my "re-watch list" so at least a little good came from reading about the remake.

Oh no, that sounRAB awful. Some things are just better left the way we remember them. Bob Peck was so perfect....(no-one else could match him for portraying a decent man driven to extreme measures in search of the truth). And everything else about the series was just so "of its time"...(especially the music)....I can't bear to think of such a fabulous series being messed about with and ruined.

I think I'll have to watch the DVD right now, to redress the balance of the universe.

Oh god I hope not

for a start it will be an English baddie because Mel hates the English

I dont know why they want to bother as they will never make it better

Mel's previous involvement in converting good UK TV to film is not exemplery... The Singing Detective...yuk! It's typical bandwagon stuff with 'State Of Play' in production at the moment, and you can just guess how that will translate across the pond!
