Echo on 616 nokia handsfree car kit?

Have just acquired a car with a nokia car kit fitted, I use 2 phones one nokia for personal calls and a HTC touch for work calls. The nokia phone works perfectly but the htc although perfectly clear for me echos the callers voice back to themselves.....I guess Nokia only want their phones to be used which i can understand but does anyone know what could be done to resolve this problem as I cannot change the work phone..
