Eating soup with long spoons.?

In high school my boyfriend read a book were a man tells the story of the difference between heaven and hell. He says that everyone is standing around a delicious pot of soup with an extra long spoon glued to their hands, the difference is that in hell they try to feed themselves and in heaven they feed each other. Can anyone tell me the title of this book please? He said it was a chick flick
