Eating fruit and drinking oolong tea after meals?

I've always been told that eating fruit such as oranges can help prevent you from putting on weight when eating. I was told to eat an orange after my dinner, because it's suppose to counteract the fat or something like that. I was told the same thing with oolong tea.

Is any of this true?
