1) Why does a house with a snow-covered roof stay warmer inside than it would if there were no snow on the roof?

2) Suppose you pour some hot water into a sink full of cold dishwater. What could you do to make the water in the sink heat up more evenly? Use the kinetic molecular theory to explain your answer.

3) f you leave lights on in a closed room, the air inside the room will start to feel hot. What type of energy transfer is involved in this situation? Explain.

HOW TO GET 10 EASY POINTS: ANSWER AS MANY AS POSSIBLE (MAKE SURE THEY ARE RIGHT, OR NO POINTS). AFTER 3 DAYS I WILL SEE WHICH ONE HAVE THE BEST RESPONSES AND I WILL GIVE THEM 10 POINTS.

1) The snow insulates the roof, so it acts as a barrier holding the heat in the house

2) Stir the water once the warm water has been added- this will help the warm molecules diffuse and collide with cooler molecules, increasing their kinetic energy (and thus temperature)

3) Convection- convection is the movement of molecules within a fluid (air is a fluid). The energy from the light is transferred to the air, and that warm air diffuses throughout the room.

Hope this helps =D
