E71 organizer question

Hey guys,
Quick organizer question.
On the e71 when you make an entry on the "calender" as a "meeting". Usually the meeting that's coming up next will show up on the home screen. For example. If i setup a meeting 48 hours from now. Usually, if there's no meetings between now and then. It will show up on the home screen as my next meeting as a reminder. The phone did just that until today... the meeting i had setup was for tomorrow... it all of the sudden disappeared from the home screen. I checked the calendar to see if it was still there and the entry was still there. So i'm not quite sure what's happened. Is there a particular settings page where i can setup how it looks?

thanks!

Was there anything else on your home screen like a new email, sms or missed call or voicemail? The E71 will display your next meeting by default. However, when you get a new alert like email, sms, vmail etc... The calendar entry will not have room on the screen to show up, so it disappears until you delete any new alert.

Hmm... i had a VM waiting for me to check. Maybe that was it. I'll get rid of them and see if any further calendar entries pop back up.

As far as my "to do" list. Is there any way to get those to display on the home screen one by one?

Alin yes, go to the active standby settings under personalization and select the plug ins you want to display on the home screen,

mark the to do list plug in, and then they will show up

It all depends on what you select to show on the active standby screen. Even if you show to do's, calendar events and stuff, if the active standby screen has too much info, it will not display events, appointments, to do's.

I use Nokia Messaging, which displays 3 emails. I also have search enabled. None of my calendar events showed unless I remove the search function from active standby. That's my understanding of how it works.

The "todo" list does show up on the home screen. However, the individual items do not. There's nothing that shows up there except "no calendar entries for today" and "wlan scanning off" and "13 items on your to do list".

Is there a way to make the actual items on the list show up? Or is that all i will get?

One more question as well.
When you are dialing a number that has letters.

for example 1800-america or something like that.
On a regular keypad you know which numbers to push in place of letters. But how do you do that with this phone? I've tried hitting the letters, but it doesn't work like that.

From this site: http://thesymbianblog.com/2009/01/02/must-know-tips-tricks-for-the-e71/

"1-800-WHATEVER: To dial 1-800-WHATEVER: type 1800, hit Fn, then Shift twice, type WHATEVER, and press the Call/Green key to dial. (The idea is to type in the alphabet mode in CAPITAL letters ONLY). The alphabets will automatically be converted to numbers."

Thanks!
That was driving me crazy.
Everytime someone was telling me "see? our number is easy to remember". I always spent a while explaining to them. Now it's just like with a regular phone.

Follow up question. What if i'm in the middle of a call? Sometimes i'll call and a phone system picks up that says "please spell the name of the person who's extension you are trying to reach". Do i do the same thing during a call?

Second question totally unrelated to the first. I have an e-mail account setup on the phone. Is it possible to have the phone automatically alert me when i get a new e-mail? I've tried to set the settings for "auto retrieve" and all of that stuff. But i still have to manually connect to the mailbox to see if there's any new mail. It would help if it would do it automatically, otherwise if someone is expecting a reply right away and i'm out of the office... it would help me get things done sooner.

thanks!
