e71 email notification problem

I just got an E71-2 from amazon and have been playing with it trying to set it up. I got gmail up and working thru imap on the default email client. The imap works fine however I cant get the email notification to come up on the home screen. When i get a new email the tiny @ sign pops up on the right corner but thats it. I have email 1 notification as an enable application and I have gmail set to the email 1. I tried all 3 preview options but no luck. Is it something obvious I am missing to make this work? It is frustrating me!

I've heard some people experience this with the Active Standby screen and e-mails. Since you just got the device, I would recommend a hard reset now.

Turn the e-mail notification off on the AS screen, setup your e-mail and go turn it back on an ensure to select the Popup+Header.

And, apart from turning off the calender plugin, there is no way to remove the "No calendar entries today" message. I do use ForecaWeather which embeds the forecast in there.

I had this problem on my first E71, I think I either went back and set up my email and then set up the notification options again or just restarted my phone. Id start with removing your email and setting it back up

I tried a hard reset still nothing.
This is what I did after the reset

-Go into mode settings turn/turn off email notification 1
-Go into email settings to set up gmail
- Send an email to myself to make sure gmail is setup correctly
- Go into mode settings turn on email notification 1
- Go into email notification 1 settings / set mailbox to gmail / set preview to header and pop up.
- Restart phone.

Am i missing a step in here?

In the meantime I got the new nokia email client and that works great. That shoulda been the email client they put on this phone. I wonder how much the subscription fee is going to be for it when it gets released.

Other than the default email client, the phone is top notch. It feels solid, reception is amazing, 3G is much faster than my 8525, the default browser is quite good (flash is nice to have). I like the month view on the calendar. The Nokic PC Suite is great, bluetooth syncing works flawlessly. It was really buggy on my 8525. Although I dont understand why it keeps on asking if i want connect via bluetooth on the phone even after I answer yes 10 times. And the battery is amazing. I have been playing with this thing the last few hours and still full charge, my 8525 would be dead 2 hours ago. The battery was one one of the many reasons why I picked the E71 over the iphone and it hasnt disappointed me.

If i had to compare this to my old 8525 i would say 8525 was more customizable but sucked as a phone. This thing does what it is supposed to pretty well and is a great phone.
