E71-2 keeps rebooting or shutting off

Here is some background. I have Rogers unlocked E71 and have been using it on the Telus network for almost a year now. Until recently its been great.

However, over the last few weeks the phone has been shutting itself off or automatically rebooting itself. 1st it was maybe once a day now, its almost every few minutes. Its frustrating and annoying as hell.

Here's what I've done in the troubleshooting dept.

-changed battery - no luck
-hard reset on phone - no luck
-taken out memory card - no luck
-tried a different sim card (Rogers and Fido) - phone seems to work, did not shut off
-turn on the phone without sim card in (offline mode) and phone doesn't shut down??
-got new sim card - worked for an hour or so and then it shut down

My thoughts is that it has to be the compatibility with the Telus Sim card and the phone, but why now? Has Telus done some changes on their network that could affect this?

Any thoughts?

It could be a network issue. My E71 went crazy when AT&T implemented their 850MHz overlay in the Philadelphia market. Later versions of firmware finally fixed this so you may want to look at a later version of firmware for your product code. The issue could be fixed by locking it into GSM mode but you can't do that with Telus since there's no GSM network, only UMTS. Look for an updated firmware version and report back. You may have to look at unbranding the device by installing generic NAM firmware on it.

I concur. I was in San Francisco & LA last month, and my Rogers branded E71 exhibited the same behaviour on AT&T. Once it was locked on T-Mobile, it was fine. There's something incompatible between AT&T's network and the firmware that came with that phone.

I agree that your only recourse is to upgrade the firmware. The E71 that Telus sells, I believe, is a couple of firmware generations ahead of Rogers.
