E65: Not Working With Holux GPSlim240

Hi guys,

My E65 paired with the Holux using BT, and the Holux indicators show:

Blue ...... is flashing, which confirms the BT connection;
Green .... is not visible, which confirms the unit is fully charged;
Yellow ... slow flashing, which confirms the Holux has it's position set.

However when I activate the Landmarks icon on my E65, then select Options / New Landmark / Current Position, the screen says "Requesting current position" but, after about 10 seconds, it says "Position request failed. Try again?", and it continues to fail.

What am I missing here?

I just got my Holux yesterday as well. Everything works fine.

In my area it did take quite a while to get a lock with the nokia app but tomtom works fine.

Did it ask you to pair with the gps when you started?

Do you have GPS enabled in the settings?

No, the E65 did not "autodetect" the Holux on BT, but it seemed to pair OK when I told the E65 to look for it. Yes, I have GPS enabled under the E65 "Position" options.

I just tried it again with my wife's E65 and it also failed. I'm therefore beginning to suspect that the Holux unit is faulty, so I'll take it back to the store tomorrow and either replace the Holux with another unit or take a Nokia LD-3W.

Thanks for responding guys!

how does tomtom run on e65 on 3d mode? is it as fast as the n80 or n73 where it the arrows moves every second where it is not fluid like when it runs on a PDA?

What's the Ram and Cpu speed of the e65?

Good idea! Just tried and again it didn't work, which seems to indicate that the Holux is faulty.

Come to think of it, when I purchased my Holux, the box wasn't sealed nor did it have a User's Manual (I downloaded one from the Internet), so I suspect I might've been given a unit which had already been returned.

If so, it was probably an honest mistake, because the store is reputable and they know me.

hey, i'm a bit new to the bluetooth GPS scene. Could someone explain to me how exactly the holux bluetooth GPS receiver would work the E65?

TO my understanding, you would keep the GPS receiver in your car, pair it with your E65, open up the landmarks app on the E65, then you will be able to see exactly where you are on software maps? Could it also give you directions and tell you where to go (i.e., left and right turns?)

Also, are there any fees that would be charged by your provider for using this service? Or is simply the one-time cost for the GPS receiver?

Any info would be great!

Thanks.

Correct, but you could also walk around with the Holux in your pocket, and that's why the small and weight size is so attractive, if the bloody thing would work for me!

Hi guys,

Here's an update: I went back to the store and we tested three other HOLUX GPSlim240 units and none of them would pick up a satellite signal from the middle of an adjacent sportsground.

In fact I went to the sportsground with one of the guys from the shop and with another guy from Nokia Hong Kong, to happened to be at the shop on a promo, and none of us could understand why the Holux units all failed.

We then tested a G-Space GS-R240B,which is virtually identical in size to the Holux, and it found a bunch of satellites in less than 30 seconds.

Awesome! I'm now a very happy camper.
