E62 - will not sync with Exchange / Small Business Server

NokiaUSA tech support tells me that Microsoft told them that Wireless Activesync ("Mail for Exchange") is not supported in a Small Business Server environment. So, they won't support it either.

Bull or what?

Anyone out there with a success story on E62 and SBS2003?

Robert

They are full of it, Microsoft Small Business server comes with Exchange 2003 which with service pack 2, fully support push active sync, I use it with my E61 and it works great, its just a shame the E62 has no WiFi, nevertheless it should work fine. You will need to purchase an SSL certificate from an online certificate authority, then install it to your SBS server and download it to your phone, then you'll be set.

There's a known... issue? (knowledgebase article) that if you have:

- Exchange + IIS on the same machine (i.e. SBS)
- Forms enabled with OWA and SSL
- forced SSL redirects for OWA (ie http://exchange -> https://exchange)

...that ActiveSync will not work because of some problem about SSL not working over the internal RPC backend connector. Lemme see if I can dig it up...

here we go:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327800

Try making sure this is all kosher with your SBS install.

The first article would only be relevant if forms based authentication was enabled, by default its not. The second article is not relevant at all because it talks about 'front end and back end' configurations which are not relevant to SBS which is a single server only configuration. I just recently configured an HP Ipaq 6915 to sync with an SBS 2003 server using active sync and there was nothing I had to do other then purchase and install an SSL cert, the rest was setting up the phone to communicate with the server, and it worked beautifully.

Do you have force redirects on your OWA as well? Besides the forms the forced HTTP -> HTTPS at the IIS layer is what causes the roadblock. If you don't have that being done, then you shouldn't have any problems (which is what I suspect you have then...)
