E61 discontinued?

I just called my local GSM phone retailer here in Chicago and was told the phone has screen issues and has been discontinued. Is that true?

This phone is amazing! I want one but at the old price (~350 shipped) with UK keyboard.

The ones on Ebay go for over $450.

Will we have a comparable replacement to that phone?

To the o.p I don't know about the discontinued question. But like mqlq76 said, check out the E62 from cingular it is available now. Doesn't have wifi though, but you will have a warranty and XBM which you won't have if you get an E61.

The E61 is not discontinued. Why would they discontinue a model because of screen problems? If it was an issue people would have reported it on cellphone forums like here.

Exchange by mail (XBM) is Cingular's warranty program, where if you've owned the phone less than a year and there's something wrong with it, you mail your phone to them and they mail you a replacement. This only applies to Cingular branded phones; it's nothing special if you don't do anything stupid to your phone and take good care of it.

I'd say keep looking for other retailers instead of buying the E62. Here's a few good ones:

It's not discontinued but it sure as heck is out of stock everywhere i look (other than sleazycell.ca which is selling it for higher prices than everyone else).

my supplier said they were discontinued as well when i asked for for one for my friend in the beginning of last week.

may just be rarer in North America since the debut of E62.
