E50 - Supposed to run slow?

I know there are a lot of threads out there with complaints about S60v3 speeds, but people are usually like "Well, just hit the remove memory card option" or "Check your free RAM". Even with about 10-15MB of free RAM (using Taskman to figure this out), I get slow performance.

These issues are the following:
1) In standby menu, there is image flickering when I cycle through my standby notifications
2) When accessing menu or opening folders, there is tearing of the image on the top portion
3) It takes about 4 Seconds for Messaging to open (my left softkey is "New SMS")

Also, S60v3 just seems to suck as a phone OS. It's cool for running apps, but the features I had in my 6230i are just played down completely. It takes much longer to access contacts, trying to insert a contact's number into an SMS message requires finding the contact first, copying the number, then creating the SMS (not as intuitive as creating the SMS and then searching for the number to insert into the message...NOT RECEIPIENT), finding contacts (searches search everything, not first letter...which is actually a pain).

I expect a phone with a 235MHz ARM processor to perform much faster than what I am experiencing, so I am quite disappointed. How can so many people be so happy with the E50 when there are so many issues? Or, is it just my phone that runs slow?

The amount of RAM doesn't necessarily have anything to do with speed like it would on a PC. Almost all of the people who own an E50 have complained about the speed.

At the very least, the left softkey will always lag because the phone allows for a delay if you're going to lock the keypad. You can also find the little hack to create subfolders in your menus, which will make the device run faster if you keep 9 or less items in every folder, including your main menu.

The other alternative is to pick up a better device, like an N73. You'll instantly notice the difference in speed, though the UI will be the same otherwise.

1) I cannot replicate. Never had this problem. I have noticed that different backgrounds can affect rate of screen change. You may want to try different light or dark backgrounds. Light seems fastest to me.

2) Nope. Nada

3) As mentioned above the left softkey is hard-coded to wait for a lock signal. Its the last place you want to put any urgent short cut. I have "new SMS" on my right softkey and camera on the left one.

YMMV on of this advice. My wife ditched her 6230 for an N73 and she complains about the speed all the time. More pertinently, she also comments everytime she gets a hold of my E50 that it seems faster and snappier. Personally, I wouldnt give awy my E50 for anything. Its tiny in the hand, topnotch build quality - physically at least. Problem is there are a lot of lemons in the E50 batches it seems. If yours seems like one - better excercise your consumer rights to a repair or replacement for one that works properly.

Too many people dont realise that in most respectable countries, and particulalry in the EU, you have a lot of consumer rights in this regard. Dont sit and take it - you dont have to. The more you excercise those rights, the more the electronics companies will be forced to take quality control seriously and stop this new trend of selling devices as disposables. My old Nokia 6100 lasted four good years - no reason why you should accept a dud from Nokia when you spent more on an E50.

What about when you open up applications from Nokia such as "Clock"? How long does it take from the time you hit "Clock" to the "Clock" app being fully loaded? Mine is close to 3 seconds, but it should be instant IMO, especially when you have to set the alarm everyday.

Also, anyone know what versions of the Alarm apps out there that doesn't have the problem with contacts button after the alarm rings?
