During a special half-hour Call of Duty: Ghosts showcase on Sunday, Activision and Infinity Ward unearthed new gameplay footage of the game.
In a purported "live broadcast", the long-serving Infinity Ward producer Mark Rubin revealed that the game's protagonist dog is named Riley, before showcasing a level where players take control of the stealth-attacking canine.
Riley can burst at speed and seize enemies, in turn making them open targets as the viewpoint switches to the traditional infantryman.
Another video showcased Ghosts' cinematic flair, with players controlling deep-sea divers who navigate coral reefs.

Activision's showcase aired one day before E3 2013, which is primed to be the most important games expo in years as the industry transitions to the next generation of consoles .
Infinity Ward did not reveal any multiplayer components for Ghosts, which resulted in complaints from some purported die-hard fans of the series.
Eric Hirshberg, the Activision Publishing chief executive, was nevertheless confident about the impact the next Infinity Ward title will have.
"Every year our team puts on an amazing production to showcase our games at E3, a spectacle that delivers an epic, immersive experience that takes your breath away. Yet all our fans aren't able to be here and share in the moment,"
"So, since our fans can't come to E3, we're bringing E3 to them. This year we're making sure the Call of Duty community is first in line to see Call of Duty: Ghosts as we kick-off what's going to be a historic week."
