I think it was in the early 90's when it received its video premiere,and either that year or the year after it was given its tv premiere on BBC1 on Xmas Day in a Spielberg approved cut version.
After watching the cut version (very minor language cuts) he liked them and incorporated some of them into his 2002 reedit,along with the added effects and stupid removal of guns.
Luckily,the dvd release allowed buyers to get both the reedit and the original cinema version
