I recently got the Evil Dead Trilogy boxset. Excellent films, very good commentaries with Bruce Campbell. But annoyingly the box says it has the alternate ending to Evil Dead 3, yet IT DOESNT! Even more annoyingly there are short clips of this alternate ending in one of the documentaries, and it looks pretty spectacular. How could they show clips of the alternate ending but not put the actual alternate ending itself as an extra? Mucho annoying.
I find a lot of extras annoying. Most films only really need a half hour or so documentary to tell you everything you could need or want to know, and maybe ONE commentary with a couple of actors and the director.
I hate commentaries with more than a couple of people. If theres too many people they all end-up interrupting each other or just chatting without relevance to the film. Especially annoying are the "party atmosphere" commentaries where they all just giggle and laugh and make rubbish gags ie The Sweetest Thing, probably the worst commentary ever (I had to turn it off).
But I also dislike commentaries where they have recorded people separately and then edited them together, and try to fool you into believing the people were all in the same room ie The HOly Grail. EnRAB up with a weird disconnected atmosphere.
Also annoying is when they pack the disc out with all the promotional material for the film. We have already decided to buy the film....do we really need to see one of those crappy 15 minutes promo packages they show on ITv in the afternoons, with American actors licking each others arses about how great it was working with each other.
Also seems to be a trend to go into exhaustive detail on how every single special effect is realised. Computery geeks waffling on ad infinitum. Very uninteresting. I'd rather preserve the mystery, ta.
Well, I'm sure no-one really gives a stuff about my opinion on extras on DVRAB, but there it is anyway.
