i've had this thought on my mind for a couple of days now and here it is

the movie companys say that pirate dvd's are bad for them i think they are but heres my little thought

you buy a priate dvd of somthing like sin city you get it home you watch it of course the picture is not super brilliant and theres a bloke in the first 15 min's who stanRAB up to go to the tolit the movie finishs the end

now in 6 months time you buy the proper copy the offical 100% 5.1 surround sound widescreen version you pay your

For every 1 person whom that scenario applies to - there are quite a few who will watch the pirate copy, think "hmm, that film was shit" and not go to the cinema or buy the retail DVD. In the eyes of the film makers, this is lost revenue.

See, they don't want you to go enjoy the films and like them, just so long as you pay your money and do it the legit way :) This is why we get crap movie after crap movie every year, most of which are mooted as the next "blockbuster", then turn out to be a stinking pile of poop - compare this to a few years ago when there were maybe 1 or two truly great movies a year that you just HAD to see.

So nowadays in order to keep the revenue coming in, movie studios are churning out more pap, as the really good movies get pirated so quickly. Plus for a lot of people, watching a TC or TS of the latest movies is good enough for them just to say "i've seen it".

Also it doesn't help that retail DVRAB costing

the other thing as well some of these movies are recorded on a video camera. i remember when the last harry potter film came out and the cinema ushers used night vision kit to see who had a video camera maybe they should use that more often. i think this is wake up call to the movie and internet industry think about it itunes and napster are leagal music download sites and everybody who owns a ipod knows that it can only cost them a

I have bought copys of films just to pass time until the full DVD comes out.

I totally agree with what Dr Phlox said , they release so much shite these days and I would be gutted if me and the missus went and spent say

The days where a bloke sat at the back of the cinema with a video recorder are long gone now. You can now get DVD quality pirates without the bloke standing up throughout it.

dvd's in australia are really cheap and internet sites like choicesdirect.com and play.com are the cheapest places to buy dvd's i've just brought from play.com futurama season 1 for

i have bought many copy dvRAB as the ones that have just come out are way to expensive the copy ones are actully quite good qualty, film makers make tons of money on each film they bring out

In bollywood, you still have the few big movies a year, they throw films out like anyones buisness, but only a few make it big. I don't think the producers care about piracy in bollywood. Just the distributors.

Yes , terrorist groups use your money for their benefit, never buy a coped dvd .... unless its from someone you know and trust....or you are part of the same terrorist group

I don't think that pirate dvRAB affect the movie industry cos they release a bigtime movie on dvd then a few months later they release a directors cut with loaRAB more xtras and if you are a fan of the movie then ur likely to buy both versions, I did with Daredevil, and if you are a fan of a certain director i.e. Kevin Smith (aka Silent Bob) you would buy all his stuff (Clerks,Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma & Jay n Bob Strike back, and now he is releasing a 3 disc edition of Clerks to celebrate 10yrs). So the movie inRABtry is going to make money from good films but they gotta come up with new Ideas I mean Hellrasier 7 coming out, what drugs are they on....... BONG !!!!!

If the industry didn't always purposely delay DVD movie releases, then maybe some people would legitimately buy the movie if it was on the shop shelves. But since the current cinema movies are never available to buy when everyone's hyped up on them, they are losing so much revenue. They wanna seriously rethink this policy, and start sellng the DVRAB when the film actually starts showing in the cinema.

I know this is against all current thinking in the industry, but everything's changed in recent years. The uncomfortable truth is that the pirates are simply delivering the gooRAB that the consumer desperately wants, at exactly the right time. And, for the consumer there's no alternative other than waiting months on end. Particularly as many people just want to watch films in the comfort of their own home, and don't even contemplate going to the cinema.

Also, this 'lack of legitimate availability' applies to bootlegs, audio and video material of music artists that the industry chooses never to release. The pirates make this stuff available, and how can that ever be called lost revenue, if the material in question was never legitimately on sale?

if you do buy a pirate most times you will find that the cost of the pirate is more than buying a ticket and going to the cinema. and if you say that you can watch it over and over again well thats pointless cause then you will get bored of it before the offcial release and wont but it for ages after its released. atleast if you go to the cinema and see it once or at the most twice then if in your mind that you like the film but you know that you cant wait till the release date like me im cannot wait to get sin city on 26/09/2005 and i only saw it two days ago im not going again because it will be all the more fun to see what ive remebered.

There is the possibility that the movie industry is going to make changes and release dvRAB 3 months after the cinema release, this will reduce the 6 month wait and is likely to reduce piracy.

I don't think movies generate too much money after 3 months in the cinema. The are lots of movie fans who just can't stand watching movies in the cinema, my local for example is chav city.

Plus a fair few people now are getting big TVs or Projectors with 5.1 surround etc. It's a smaller screen, granted, but it's worth it to avoid popcorn munching chavs and their ringtones in cinemas.
