Duplicate user names and can't HotSynch

You guys ROCK! I've been thru 6 pages of previous forum posts and have seen my identical problem nowhere here (but it has been asked on the Palm.com site--never answered, however....)

I set up my new TX on my laptop at home and downloaded with a HotSynch to my SmartCard--no problems. But when I attemt to HotSynch on my work station (and where my old M500 has been HotSynched for all these years, I get the "Duplicate user names are not permitted. The user XXXYYY already exists on this PC....you must rename XXXYYY user on the Palm OS Desktop". When I do this however, I don't get the relevant info, of course, since none of it exists under the new name.

What's the solution?--a hard reset?? Any help is much appreciated--surely some one at Palm thought about somebody upgrading to a new device and even using it on 2 computers!!??

I recently upgraded to the Palm T|X from a Palm Vx.
It has been awhile but I think the way that I handled the issue was to do the following:
1. Make a copy of your user name folder that should be located inside your Palm folder on your C drive. IE C:\Program Files\palmOne
2. Rename it to something slightly different than your original one. IE 'rbarkc' gets renamed to 'rbarkcV2'.
3. Go ahead and now sync your Palm. It should prompt you and ask which username to pick. Choose the V2 user name.
4. Cross your fingers. :)

I can't swear that this works but I think this is what I ended up doing. It was several months ago when I did it so the exact details are long lost in my brain.

I would recommend doing a hard reset. That way you're starting with a clean slate. Just be sure that you don't delete or overwrite your original folder until you are sure that this method works.
