Duplicate contacts (sort of)

I decided to factory reset my phone (after playing with it for a day), and backed up my Google and phone contacts prior to it. I don't know if these contacts are identical, although what I did was transfer my old SIM card's contacts into my Google account, then link them with my Facebook contacts (IIRC).

So anyway I imported both backup files, and realized that most contacts were linked to an almost-identical Google contact and a Facebook contact. Almost-identical means that the phone number has dashes in it (I don't know why, I never add dashes). Some have up to 4 identical Google contacts linked.

In the end I went through each one, wasting about 50 minutes of my time.

Just curious, why are the dashes added, and when faced with a similar situation next time, is there any simpler way?

It could be from importing from SIM card. What I would do in wiping or new phone is just login. All contact is on google's server. As soon as you setup ans sync for the first time, all your contact will be there, no need to back up and import.

To fix duplicate contacts, the easiest way is to login on a computer and merge contacts there.

I have the same problem in the past, contact remover was my remedy for that. I used Scrubly Duplicate Contacts Remover and it works. You can do the same thing, they have other features that will surely help.

The process is simple; it scans your contact folders and look for duplicate contacts. If Scrubly finds any exact or Compatible Contacts, it will remove or merge them automatically. They even have a back up so I can have the original copy just in case.
I hope this information had helped you =).I can give you the link to the site if you want to have more information as I guess they have other features.,.
