DUMB QUESTION!!! Can you please tell me were do I actully PUT the php code in a website?

I knew that is dumb question but Im really confused. Were do I put the php codes in a website if Im making it with notepad?


I mean when I start with <html>

?<php Is that HOW? and why is this so important instead of using regular html??? Thanks!!
Iam practicing and it says :hello world in PHP, I have also seen it without PHP, so what is the difference? Can you please explain it to me ?
